Five must-listen Canadian podcasts for the summer

Audio has proven to be a very popular companion as we head outdoors to take advantage of the season. With the Canada Day long weekend around the corner, it’s the perfect time to relax, soak in the sun and enjoy a much-needed breather, with TPX’s Top 5 “hottest” Canadian podcasts of the season.

Big laughs, smart takes:

Find out what all the "commotion" is about with this new daily podcast (and radio show) from CBC. Every day, host Elamin Abdelmahmoud (former writer for BuzzFeed News) offers captivating, joyful and trendy discussions across arts, pop culture and entertainment. Commotion with Elamin Abdelmahmoud launched earlier this year and is already a success, putting smiles on the faces of receptive listeners from coast to coast to coast.

Romance Revisited:

Do you heart rom-coms? You're not alone. Hosts Devin and Sarah love watching romantic comedies (over and over again!), and their shared passion is contagious.  On The Rom Com Rewind Podcast, they re-watch your favourite rom-coms,  take a peek behind the curtain, dig beneath the surface and decide ... do they still hold up? With the summer wedding season in full swing, join Devin and Sarah as they celebrate the nuptials with The Wedding Date, Mamma Mia and much more.

They make Canadian politics fun:

Is there anything more patriotic than a podcast dedicated to Canadian politics? Listen to The Strategists to learn about politics from seasoned experts and entertainers who dare you not to laugh along the way. Renowned strategists Stephen Carter and Corey Hogan, with hosts Annalise Klingbiel and Zain Velji, dissect the news of the day, pass judgment on strategy choices and lift back the curtain on how decisions are made. Fans of the podcast range from political pros and media types to curious Canadians looking to make sense of things with some help from their smart, irreverent friends. Will you learn about politics? Of course. Will it be funny and entertaining? YES!

Mystery curse, hidden Canadian treasure!

An Indigenous prospector accused of murder set a curse on anyone who searched for his hidden gold. His name was Slumach, and for over 100 summers prospectors have searched the glaciers above Pitt Lake, which are impenetrable in winter. Some have never returned. Deadman's Curse: Slumach's Gold is a historical, true crime podcast hosted by Kru Williams from History Television. Kru and the team investigate the curse and legend in their search for the lost gold mine of Pitt Lake.

Unfiltered, en francais:

Hosts PH Cantin and Doum Plante are the "O.G.'s" of French Canadian podcasting. In the five years since Sans Filtre launched, this podcast's unfiltered, in-depth discussions have shifted focus from politicians and entertainers to big thinkers, researchers, scientists and more. Sans Filtre is the weekly meeting place for young adults who want to learn as much about different subjects as they do about themselves.
